1. IN THE REFUGE OF GOD (short 'video' clip now available below).
In this sermon, preached on 25th September 1960, 'the Doctor' proclaims that the gospel provides a refuge – not for the body, but for the soul - a refuge from condemnation and the forces that endanger the soul. He then explains that the gospel does not just provide a refuge; it provides much more than that! And the promises upon which the gospel is based are not like promises made to us by people, they come from one whose nature and character are completely trustworthy. Hallelujah!

2. HEAR YE HIM
The central theme of this sermon is the importance of obeying God's commands. Preaching on 27th September 1964, MLJ used Moses as an example of the way God calls people into his service. Having called people, he then gives them detailed instructions - the ministry is not their own. This sermon gets off to a slower start than many by 'the Doctor', but as he moves on from the example of Moses, get ready for some mountain-top experiences as he describes the one who Moses prophesied about!

3. A NEW & LIVING WAY
The Doctor says that Christians should always be in the position of having full assurance. Here he focuses on full assurance of faith and says that it is vital to prayer, stating that otherwise prayer is pointless! Yet he starts with an honest acknowledgement of the difficulties we face in prayer, and it is only after considering those carefully that he goes on to describe the provisions that God has made to overcome them. This is an important topic that Martyn Lloyd-Jones preached on many times.

4. JESUS: HUMAN AND DIVINE
In this Christmas Day sermon MLJ speaks about the birth of Jesus Christ and how the Son of God took on human nature – took on the form of a servant. The Virgin Birth is not some piece of romantic mysticism, but a vitally important part of God’s redeeming work. So MLJ explains four of the reasons that Jesus chose to share in our humanity, and finally urges his listeners to meditate upon these things over Christmas.

5. BY FAITH ABRAHAM
Some think the Bible is remote from life, but MLJ says it is a practical book that teaches us how to live, and provides historical cases of people who applied the lessons. In this sermon, the question he asks at the start a New Year is this: are we more concerned about what will happen to us, or whom will accompany us? He then goes on to describe Abraham's approach to a new period in his life.
